Thank you.

I came up with the idea because most of it is real, including the fact that I'm brewing up two more... though I haven't been talking to them!

The little monster in the first photo really was the one that was bouncing around in my kidney. It was too big to come out on its own, so they used a laser to vaporize it, which I thought was pretty cool! I am very curious about our innards, so had asked the doctor if I could stay awake to watch, but he informed me that I would definitely need to be knocked out - he did promise to grab pictures while he was in there.

When I woke up, the recovery room nurse handed me the photo and my first words were, "Oh my god, it looks like a hedgehog!" Another nurse came scurrying over from across the room, announcing, "Wait, I want to see the hedgehog, too!" By that point, everyone was cracking up.

You can't say that this old lady doesn't know how to have a good time! 😂

First time I've ever read about these bad boys! You nicely lightened the burden of struggling through all the gore with many a stinkin' good turn of phrase. But I do hate the pic! And the size of the thing!

Thank you. It helps to chuckle at one's medical misfortunes. The actual stone was only somewhere between 15 and 20 cm... not huge, but too big to leave on its own. The second photo was NOT a kidney stone, but a little crystal hedgehog that my eldest son gave me a while back. I noted the similarity when I was ready to post, so snapped a picture to include in the story.

Wait a minute... I think I meant MILIMETERS, not centimeters... that extra decimal point would turn the thing into a monster!

Jeannine: The crystalline figurine is beautiful.

Hmmm.

So THAT is what hospitalized my Dad for a week in LA circa Summer, 1967!

Boy, I know it was painful to my Dear Dad, poor guy!

I hope, I hope, I hope and pray you stay safe.

I envy you living in New Hampshire, my birthplace, and my fun, first five years.

Boy, in late 1953, when we moved to Long Beach, California, the little boy, Armando, wondered, Hmmm, winter is late this year. So, I asked my Dad, When, oh When would the snow finally come.

Never, was my Dad's reply. And he explained.

Boy, I was FURIOUS!

I LOVED the frolic of snow!

It took a long time to overcome the loss of snow.

Thank you, it was a sweet present from my son.

Yep, I was definitely lucky. Also, I've heard that it can be a lot worse for men, but I don't know why. Possibly because of the difference in male and female anatomy, I suppose.

I love this state, but health care is a precious commodity in the sticks, so we have to try to be proactive. Snow... I have mixed feelings about the white stuff, but overall I like it. I wish I could send some your way!

There's probably a market for them these days Jeanine?

Can't deny this is the best kidney stone story I'm aware of - although I'd far rather you'd never had to tell it.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. Maybe I can go into kidney stone production... it seems that people are willing to buy just about anything these days. 😂 I honestly wouldn't be bothered by them at all, if it weren't for the horror stories from the 'net and my doctor. I've switched from calcium carbonate to smaller doses of calcium citrate supplements, and am drinking LOTS of water. The doctor looked over my diet and there's not much else I can do for prevention. She said some of us are just genetically inclined to pop out stones. Lucky me, eh? 🙄
