I've always been interested in writing, but time is a precious commodity. I found that writing these little stories to be both pleasurable and stimulating to my aging brain. I've decided to write a microfiction piece every day and post all of them here: The few I think are good, the embarrassingly silly, and the indifferent. I hope my efforts might inspire others to let their creativity out to play.

Microdosing - 80 mg of a Horizon

We'd been driving for hours, playing cat and mouse in the blinding snowstorm. Their SUV stuck fast in a snowbank as I drove towards the forest. The storm was worsening. I couldn't outrun them forever.
I pulled over and quickly strapped on my snowshoes. The assassins were flatlanders - even if they found my car, the snow would cover my tracks. With hope in my heart, I looked towards the North Star on the horizon and began the long trek home.

Microdosing - 60 mg of a Chimney

He had successfully stolen the plans. All that remained was delivery. When he heard the knocking, he panicked. In desperation, he stuffed them up the chimney.
His girlfriend was at the door. He let her in and pretended everything was normal. While he went to the kitchen to fetch wine, she proceeded to light a romantic fire in the fireplace.

Microdosing - 100 mg of a Raindance

We didn't have much growing up. That summer was sweltering hot. We could not afford air conditioning, nor a trip to the ocean, nor a pool.
When my father heard the rumble of thunder, he knew a great rain storm was brewing. Soon, it was raining cats and dogs. Like the Pied Piper of Nimbus, he led us into the blessed coolness. We tumbled out the door like clumsy puppies, dashing about, puddle stomping, letting the deluge soak us to the skin.
We didn't have much, but we knew how to have fun. I will always remember that glorious raindance.

During a discussion in the comment section of ’s Holiday Micro Contest, I mentioned that two mini-donkeys lived with me. suggested that a 50 to 100 mg holiday story from the perspective of my mini-donkeys might be interesting. 🐴
Microdosing - 100 mg of Mini-Donkeys!
Joe promised he'd watch Rose and Pee-Wee, when he wheedled me into allowing him to use them in the Christmas creche display. He *promised.* So why was I getting a frantic midnight call about the donkeys being mia? Joe messed up.
Luckily, the snow made them easy to track. Unluckily, their trail led right to Bob's tree farm, where they were feasting on expensive Yuletide greenery.
Pee-Wee and Rose were happy to be led home to their warm stall. Joe paid Bob for the purloined tree boughs. Next Christmas, no matter how hard Joe begs, we are all staying home!

Microdosing - 100 mg of a Campfire

When I learned of his betrayal, I packed up my sleeping bag and the rest of my gear and left. I needed to be alone and I knew the forest would keep my secrets.
That night, I stared into the campfire, watching memories of the past and dreams of the future flickering away into embers. I fed the flames with his love letters, his photographs, his promises, and all my hopes.
When the night is over, the detritus of our life together will be nothing more than ashes, and my broken heart will turn to stone and love no more.
Great stories! And the mini donkeys are so very cute!!
I hope you’re doing well now!❤️
Great micros!☺️
